The Rotary Club of Lake Bunyonyi is celebrating a remarkable year of service, growth, and meaningful change across the Kabale District. In just under two years since its charter, the club has become a beacon of hope and a pillar of community development around Lake Bunyonyi and beyond.
Promoting Education and Literacy
One of the club’s standout projects in 2024–2025 was the Education and Literacy Project, which supported Kyabahinga and Bufuka Primary Schools—both located on Lake Bunyonyi’s remote islands. The club donated scholastic materials, improved classroom furniture, and conducted mentorship sessions. These efforts improved learning conditions for hundreds of children and re-energized teachers.
Environmental Conservation and Tree Planting
The club held multiple tree planting campaigns to promote sustainability and preserve the natural beauty of Lake Bunyonyi. Over 500 trees were planted in partnership with local schools and environmental clubs, teaching students the value of protecting their surroundings.

Community Clean-Up Campaigns
In collaboration with UCC Kabale, the club organized successful Kabale Town clean-up drives, especially during major celebrations like the college’s 42nd anniversary. These campaigns promoted sanitation, civic pride, and youth engagement, leaving a cleaner and healthier urban space.
Girls’ Menstrual Health and School Retention
Through its Menstrual Health Initiative, the club distributed reusable sanitary pads to adolescent girls and held awareness workshops. These efforts helped reduce absenteeism and fostered confidence and dignity among young girls, supporting their right to education.
Youth Empowerment and Leadership Training
The club engaged local youth through mentorship programs, leadership talks, and partnerships with schools and vocational institutions. These sessions aimed to equip young people with life skills, goal-setting strategies, and a spirit of community service.
Health and Hygiene Awareness
Basic hygiene awareness campaigns were conducted in schools and markets, especially focusing on handwashing, water safety, and waste management. This initiative was particularly vital for protecting rural communities from preventable diseases.
Fellowship and Networking
Weekly Tuesday fellowships at Kwanzi Bistro became not just planning sessions, but powerful gatherings for collaboration, learning, and friendship. The club continues to attract professionals and service-minded individuals who bring new ideas and energy.
Partnerships for Greater Impact
Throughout the year, the Rotary Club of Lake Bunyonyi worked with other Rotary Clubs, educational institutions, local leaders, and NGOs to amplify its reach. These partnerships made it possible to serve more communities with greater efficiency and lasting results.
Visibility and Online Engagement
The club has maintained an active presence on social media, especially Facebook, where it shares stories, project updates, and upcoming events. This has strengthened community trust and drawn more supporters and volunteers.
Looking Ahead: Bigger Goals for 2025–2026
As the club enters a new Rotary year, it plans to expand its education efforts to more schools, deepen its environmental conservation work, and launch vocational training programs to support youth employment.
