About Us

The Rotary Club of Lake Bunyonyi is part of a global network of professionals and community leaders committed to creating lasting change through humanitarian service, both locally and internationally. Since Rotary’s founding in 1905, Rotary International has grown to include over 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide—all guided by the shared motto: Service Above Self.

Rotary focuses on seven key areas of impact:

  • Promoting peace

  • Fighting disease

  • Supporting education

  • Improving maternal and child health

  • Providing clean water and sanitation

  • Growing local economies

  • Protecting the environment

Chartered on 15th September 2023, the Rotary Club of Lake Bunyonyi is proud to be part of this global movement while staying deeply rooted in the local context of southwestern Uganda. We are a growing club of passionate individuals committed to addressing the unique needs of the Lake Bunyonyi region and the greater Kigezi area.

From supporting island schools like Kakomo and Bufuka, to planting trees, promoting menstrual health, and improving access to clean water and healthcare, our projects are inspired by the natural beauty and cultural richness of our surroundings—and driven by a desire to uplift lives.

We meet every Tuesday at 6:00 PM (EAT) at Cephas Inn in Kabale, where we gather for fellowship, planning, and inspiration.

Our Projects and Impact

At the Rotary Club of Lake Bunyonyi, we take action through projects that directly respond to the needs of our community. Highlights include:

  • Empowering Girls and Mothers with Reusable Sanitary Pads
Over 200 girls and mothers at Bufuka and Kakomo Primary Schools have been trained to make and use reusable sanitary pads, helping to reduce school absenteeism and promote menstrual health dignity.

  • Fruit Tree Planting for Sustainability
We have planted fruit trees at Kashaki Secondary School and in Buzaniro Village, supporting both environmental conservation and community nutrition.

  • Life Jackets for Schoolchildren on the Lake
To ensure the safety of children who cross Lake Bunyonyi daily for school, we distributed life jackets to students at Bufuka Primary School.

  • Telemedicine Project at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital
In partnership with Global Offset Care (USA), we launched a telemedicine initiative at Makanga Hospital, enhancing healthcare access through digital consultations and remote expertise.

  • Ongoing WASH Project at Bunyonyi Primary School
Currently, we are addressing urgent water needs at Bunyonyi Primary School, where students previously walked over 2 hours to fetch clean water. This WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project aims to bring safe water closer to learners and improve health outcomes.

Our Mission
To serve communities around Lake Bunyonyi through impactful projects in education, health, clean water, and youth empowerment—guided by the Rotary principle of Service Above Self.
